Friday Progress Update, Apr 19: "Saving the Princess"

Hello, everyone!

It's Friday again! The working week is over. Two days of freedom and frolic is upon us. But that is, of course, not what's important today. It's time for another Friday Progress Update! Let's do this.

So I'm in the script-writing phase. Not my favorite part of development because I'm so damnably slow at it. I've got the next update fully laid out now, and it's all about filling out the space with cheesy dialogue and bad jokes.

I'll describe the process for when I'm writing, and why it's so slow. If I sit down and just man up and say to myself, I'm going to write now. Four hours of just grinding this here script. What happens is I just freeze up and get nowhere. I'll end up staring at the screen trying to come up with the next line of dialogue.

Likewise, if I try split the time between writing and posing renders, for example, the posing steals all my brain capacity and I completely fail at writing anything coherent.

So what I end up doing is writing a little, do nothing useful (mostly randomly surfing the web), writing a little more, and so on. It's like I have a small pool for writing that's emptied in one-two sentences, but refills again if I watch funny cat videos for a few minutes.

It's inefficient like hell, but it's what works so ... It is what it is?

I know some game devs who just spew out sentence after sentence, page after page. But on the other hand, in the Summer of 2011, I bought A Dance with Dragons on the same day it was published and I'm still waiting for the next book. I guess it's not as slow as it could be, is the point I'm trying to make I guess, or something. Hodor.

Anyway, I'm progressing! Not ready to start rendering yet, though. I wouldn't dare guess at a size for the next update yet.

On to something else: Polls. Beth and Miko won the content poll. No surprise, I guess. Miko got more votes though, good for her! Soon (tomorrow maybe), I'll do a poll about the gallery.

Okay, I desperately need a video of dogs trying to carry a branch through a fence now, got to recharge those batteries. I'm hoping to get some more script down on paper today!

I'll see you guys again soon. Thank you for your support!
